Connect Matomo

Connect your Matomo analytics to follow visitor journeys and AI assistant visits, and link them to HubSpot contacts.

10 minPlan: Growth and above

If you use Matomo instead of, or as well as, Google Analytics, Luciqo can read your visitor journeys from it: the first touch, the channels each visitor used, visits from AI assistants, goals and revenue. Combined with HubSpot, it can join a website journey to the lead, deal and revenue it became.

Luciqo stores no names, emails or IP addresses from Matomo. Each visitor becomes an anonymous code that only works for this brand.

Before you start

  • A Growth, Pro or Agency plan.
  • Your Matomo address, starting with https://. It must be reachable from the internet.
  • A Matomo auth token from a user with at least view access to the site.
  • The Live (visits log) feature turned on in Matomo. Luciqo reads the visits log, so the sync fails if it's turned off.

Create a Matomo auth token

  1. Log in to Matomo.
  2. Go to Administration, then Personal, then Security.
  3. Under Auth tokens, create a new token and copy it.

A user with view access is enough. Luciqo only reads data.

Connect Matomo

  1. In Luciqo, open your brand and click Connections in the sidebar.
  2. On the Matomo card, fill in Matomo address: the address you use to log in to Matomo, such as https://analytics.example.com.
  3. Paste your token into Auth token.
  4. Click Connect Matomo. Luciqo checks the details.

Luciqo keeps the token encrypted and never shows it again.

Choose the site

  1. After connecting, the card says "Connected. Now choose the site to track."
  2. Pick the brand's site under Site. If it isn't listed, click Reload sites.
  3. Click Use this site.

The first sync starts straight away and can take a few minutes. The card then shows Connected, the site and Last sync.

Sync your data

Each sync saves a dated snapshot of the last 180 days under Data pulls, showing visits, visitors and AI visits.

  • Active connections refresh automatically every Monday.
  • Click Sync now to refresh at any time. You can't start one while another is running, or within 10 minutes of the last.

If you also use HubSpot, you can connect each visitor's journey to the contact it became. The Connect the journey: website to CRM panel on the Connections page walks you through it. It takes about 10 minutes and you only do it once.

  1. In HubSpot, create a contact property called Visitor ID (single-line text, internal name visitor_id).
  2. Add it as a hidden field to your website forms.
  3. Copy the Website snippet from the panel and paste it on every page, after your Matomo tracking code. It fills the hidden field with the Matomo visitor ID.
  4. Optional: if people log in or sign up on your site, also add the second snippet, Optional: user ID after sign-up or login. It sets the Matomo user ID to a one-way hash of the email, so the email itself is never sent to Matomo.

See Connect HubSpot for the HubSpot side.

Change or disconnect

  • To track a different site, click Change site.
  • To stop syncing, click Disconnect and confirm. Your token is deleted. Past data stays.
  • To remove past data, use Delete all Matomo data under Data pulls, or Delete next to a single pull.

If something goes wrong

  • "The visits log is turned off in this Matomo": ask your Matomo admin to enable the Live (visits log) feature, then click Sync now.
  • "No sites found for this token": the token's user can't see any sites. Give the user view access, or use another token.
  • "The last sync didn't finish": the card shows the reason. Fix it and sync again.
